Elegy for the Students and Teachers of Sandy Hook

    https://dl.dropbox.com/u/43788573/Elegy.mp3

Our church is on the border of Brookfield and Newtown CT. Many of our members had friends and colleagues lost in this tragedy. This is for them.

It was composed and rendered using Finale, GPO and GAS.

    Hi Chris

In these darks days, your Elegy reflects perfectly the mood we're in and the occasion to compose it for even more. You did a terrific job: sober, expressive and with a deep emotional touch, only possible if you have lived through these dreadful events or if you were involved somehow. For the listener it illustrates the sadness, sorrow and compassion, caught in a direct musical language. Nice works! It really got to me.

    Thanks for sharing it.

You have a great start on this work! I would love to hear another section and then a return to your main theme. I like the main theme of the composition how the "&a 3, &a 1..." flows like tears off a cheek.

In a situation where we have no sufficient words, music speaks for us. I think this is a brave thing for you to have done, Chris. Thank you for posting it.

Thanks for listening, folks. You guys got exactly what I was striving for.

Max, I was trying to bring some light into the darkness.

Rodney, Thanks for seeing the potential of a larger work. I conceived this as part of a service that we will be holding and I chose the length based on that.

Randy, you summed up my feelings about the healing power of music beautifully.

Have a happy and healthy New Year.

Plaintive and solemn. Very expressive, and, as you said, just the right length for your purpose. Nice work, Chris.

The mood of the music certainly fits the situation. Quite bleak for all concerned.

I think that this piece reflects the feelings of most people about the incident. It is somber and very respectful.
A very nice post. Thanks. Jay
