Orchestral Demo, all sounds are free or self-made

Hello, everyone.

Here is my new piece.

http://www.wisemanproject.com/demo/sara1.mp3

Because I was away from my setup, I had to make sound using someone\'s computer.
Every sounds in this music is free or self-made.
I used Kontakt, by the way.

Flute - one layer, I think only 5 wav. or so.
Oble - same as flute
Clarinet - I didn\'t have clarinet...
Bassoon - same as flute

Horn - I couldn\'t find horn sample, so I used trombone sound, and cut the attack and filtered the sounds.

Piano - free
Harp - free

String - I found slow attack violin wav. and expanded to all range.

I composed it for a student film, but they didn\'t use it....

any comments are welcomed.

That\'s a really nice piece! Why didn\'t they use it?

Surely the director liked it? It\'s very pretty. What kind of a film did you write it for?

I like the emotional impact of this one! This goes to show that nothing can limit creativity indeed.

Congratulations!

Hey Ken,
It is indeed a very nice little piece made with little or no resources. A damn sight better than what I was coming up with before I got the sample library addiction.
If I had one comment, it would be that your pans are far too extreme. It felt like there was a gaping hole right in the middle where so many of those sounds would like to live. When I listened with headphones it was even more pronounced.
otherwise nice work

This is a very beautiful score. Nice work.

Flute - one layer, I think only 5 wav. or so.

Was that my legato flute?

If not, I have a free flute and harp performances
at my site.

Enjoy!

Hi Ken,

Very beautiful piece indeed. Delicate and emotional. I can\'t believe you did so much with so little! And I can\'t believe either that they didn\'t decide to use your piece for the film.

I have to concur with the ultra-panning in the mix though (listened to it through headphones).

Great job,

Ruben

By the way, I forgot to ask:
How did you expand a single violin wav to all the range and made it sound so good? Did you use Melodyne or other specialty app?

Take Care,

Ruben

I don\'t have any idea why they didn\'t use it...

>> It felt like there was a gaping hole right in the middle where so many of those sounds would like to live.

Yes, I felt the same. Since we had to use headphone and the director want me to reserve the center for the dialogue, I paned the sounds extreamly.

>>Was that my legato flute?
I don\'t think so, Francis. It was akai thing that I found on the web.

>>How did you expand a single violin wav to all the range and made it sound so good?

I did use Sound Forge to make \"violin\" sounds better. But Viola and Cello range are very raw. Point is that we don\'t listen to the viola or cello; we listen to the violin (the highest). If violin reasonablly sounds good, whole strins session become good.

Very nice piece! However anytime someone starts a thread with \"free - self made samples\", I would love it if they had links to the freebies used so we all could download them!
