To Hollywood and Beyond (A Tribute to Film Music Masters)

This piece is titled To Hollywood and Beyond. It is a tribute of sorts of the great masters of film music, especially my favorite, John Williams. It features my Garritan/Finale contest entry, Deep Space. I hope you all enjoy. [vid (with audio synced correctly) coming soon]

    Very good job.
It brings me back to the days when soundtracks weren't... cinematic.

Excellent piece. I would imagine and earlier period than John Willams here. More classical sounding instrumentation. But the music is great, speaks for itself. Certainly grows into a more cinematic style as it runs to the end. The woodwinds sound particularly well orchestrated and strong.

One thing I disliked when using finale was the dynamic range was hard to pull up beyond ff and give it that extra power needed.

John Williams is a favourite of mine as well. I've done both a library mock up of the Raiders March, and my own kind of Williams piece. They are on my Youtube channel if you find some time (in sig).

Thank you for your comments. It is a bit more classical. The first half is less about film music and more about dedication and hard work. Those qualities propelled the masters to Hollywood and allowed them to take everyone to other worlds in a way not possible before the merging of cinema and music, one of the reasons I enjoy film music so much.

Thanks for commenting on my orchestration. I learned form Korsakov's Principles of Orchestration here on this website. Woodwinds definitely need the most care in my opinion as I believe is also mentioned in the course.

I agree, Finale playback is definitely difficult to blend and mix correctly. I find myself making small tweaks long after I actually complete the music.

I'll head over to your channel and take a listen. I'm glad you enjoyed this piece. Thanks again!

Thanks for finally posting your music for us to hear, David. Like the shorter contest piece, this is super nice work in every area.

I have a technical question of sorts. It's good for the General Discussion board, so I'll ask it there.

    Thanks again.
