Sound stuttering/choking with very large Giga piano library in GVI
QUESTION: What can I do so that I can play many notes and have very low latency without the system choking?
I just purchased a piano library and the files are 12 gig in size. I have not had
this problem until I started using the large library.
My system is choking when I play many notes, especially when I try
to set the latency to around 6ms so the piano becomes playable.
Is it more likely the hard drive(s) or sound card that is stuttering?
( If a drive problem, is it possible to separate the associated files .gig .gx01 .... .gx06 to different drives? )
Details:
The files are of extension .gig .gx01 .... .gx06
The library is on a separate drive than the operating system.
Intel Du0 2.5gig processor
4gig ram
Cubase 3 SX
Asio Driver: Asio4All ( buffer size 300 - 500 samples for latency of around 6ms )

Re: Sound stuttering/choking with very large Giga piano library in GVI
I played around with a couple things that have seemed to help.
1) I switched from asio4all driver to the Focusrite Saffire driver ( using Cubase )
2) I was able to set buffer length down to a very small size giving
me faster piano key response.
3) Reduced voice polyphony in GVI to limit at 32 notes. This is a big compromise.
I'd rather have many more voices, 64 or 96 as they are needed for the pedaled piano parts .
I also so a primer on setting up a system for virtual pianos.

I'm VERY interested to hear other's input as well
thank you for reading and for your ideas
