    MagicScore notation software

Anyone ever heard of it? I am really surprised that there isn't more here about it (found only two old hits, and the content was only that they software was being offered free).

The software has gotten excellent reviews, but it's not the most professional looking, so I imagine that kills it for many.

I'm wondering if anyone's ever used it with Garritan Sounds, and if so, what kind of luck they had.

    Thanks,

    Starkman

(Oh, and the MagicScore website is http://www.musicaleditor.com/make-music.html. This is the complete package of which a demo download can be gotten from this site.)

I had the free giveaway versions (i dont have them any more because re-intallation of the OS) and they were nice programs. But it dont have a direct support of Virtual instruments, so you need work in the old fashion way: to export the midi and open it in a sequencer, or use a virtual midi driver.

to be perfectly frank, the notation aspect of it looks like crap.
I've seen better results from dedicated DAWs that have barely functional notation capabilities.

Thanks! Can you give me some specifics about a virtual midi driver? I'm very new at this.

    Thanks again,

Keith, please consider going with Finale or even (shudder) Sibelius.

Even Finale Allegro or PrintMusic is going to be much better than whatever the hell MagicScore is. Magicscore sent me right back to some very rudimentary music notation programs I used when it was all starting up in the late 80's and early 90's.

I think if you'll bite the bullet and go with something a little more up to date you'll be happier in the long run.
In theory there is no difference between theory and practice, but in practice there is.

sometimes, the truth needs to hurt.
else the people who make software packages like MagicScore get away with releasing garbage, or worse, actually believe their own hype that their software is good.

Okay, so...what are you trying to say, reberclark? You really need to say what you mean. You're just too vague, dog-gone it, too not-to-the-point...(sarcasm, I hope you realize!)

Hey, thanks very much for the input. I do have Finale PrintMusic, and I'm happy with it. I was just checking around to see what anyone knew about Magicscore. That's all. It has a virtual piano for notation input, and some other attractive features, which, for $100.00, look interesting.

(But really, please, in the future speak what's on your mind. Just come out with it! )

    Thanks much,

    Starkman

Can't tell if they have a sense of humor, or just plain, uh, stupid, but if you click on the screen shots, you'll find the excerpt from Rigoletto is by "J. Verdi" - honestly...

On the other hand, they may be very clever. But the product would be better.

    Or not.
