    Lightbulb How to add Volume and Pan control to imported sfz instruments with ARIA

    Hi guys,

    Someone recently asked how to control the Volume slider and Pan knob on ARIA's mixer window inside their custom imported sfz files. The ARIA Mixer window sends out General MIDI controller messages by default. This means Volume sliders control MIDI CC7 and Pan Knobs control MIDI CC10 on their respective MIDI channels. So all you need to do is assign these default MIDI CCs to control the sample regions within your sfz instrument files.

    To do this:

    - Open your sfz instrument file
    The first part is a <control> section which will set default values for when the instrument is first loaded into ARIA. Add the following to the top of your sfz file:

    <control>
    set_cc7=100
    set_cc10=63

    - If your sfz already has a <global> section just add the two lines below your existing <global> header. These opcodes will tell all the sample regions within the instrument to be controlled by MIDI CC 7 for volume and CC10 for pan. Add these opcodes below your <control> section that you just added:

    <global>
    pan_oncc10=100 pan_curvecc10=1
    amplitude_oncc7=100 amplitude_smoothcc7=50

    Let me know if you have any questions. Enjoy!

    Chad

    There might be simpler answers but in my tutorial I show you how to use breath controller (or modwheel) and auto-legato on your instrument. See http://learnewi.blogspot.com/2011/02...-tutorial.html

    Hi Briff. Great tutorial! Maybe im missing something, but your sfz file makes available legato BUT it is not displayed or able to be controled from the ARIA gui, or im missing something?

    The GUI is a different animal, see http://www.ewiusb.com for some tips.

    Hi Marce,

    Yes adding EQ and AUTOLEGATO is currently a bit more detailed process. I will save that for a later tutorial.

    PS - Briff,

    I checked out your website. I loved the Duduk demos! Keep up the good work.

    Just use the same amplitude_oncc opcode but change or add one with a value of CC1 instead of CC7:

    amplitude_oncc1=100

    If you do this you may also want to add a default value for CC1 in the <control> section so that if you load the patch it won't be silent:

    set_cc1=100

    Oh nice tutorials!
    one question though:
    can you make an custom dropdown bank menu like that GPO one with own sfz samples?
    thank you for your help!

    Yes, it is possible. You need to edit the banks xml files. I have done it in the past, but it is very tricky, and i find much more easy to drag-n-drop from the folders.
    Maybe if in the future the make it more easy, i believe i will use that method.
