    Period instrument library?

I'm looking for libraries that contain period instruments from the Renaissance and Baroque periods.

Can someone give me an extensive list of all of them that are available?

    Thanks.

I don't know how extensive that list would be, as I believe what you're looking for would be a niche within a niche. The only sample library I'm aware of that would cover what you're after is the McGill University library, which was recently acquired by Garritan. You can see a thread on the Garritan forum about this here.

There could be other early-music sample libraries available. This forum may not be the most promising place for answers to your inquiry, so you may want to try posting it at the General Discussion forum on the Garritan side.

    Best of luck!

    Steve

I should have been clearer. I was looking for European instruments only, not world instruments.

Can the other libraries be mixed with other orchestras like Garritan? I mean the tuning problem in particular.

    Hi,

Yes, you can mix different libraries together. I have mixed many different libraries with Garritan (GPO etc.) and had no problems at all. Sounded nice actually.

Never had any trouble with tuning.

Are there any discontinued libraries, like for defunct software like Gigastudio that can still be acquired somewhere?

    Is this library any good?

you need to study your history then go look for instruments and study the styles that make up that history for music.

    Re: Period instrument library?

what you should have said is:

I am looking for Renaissance and Baroque style Instruments because I want to mock-up some early style compositions. Does anyone know of any sample libs with these...

then it's harpsichords, Clavichords, oboes, etc.

    Period instruments is rather vague.

No reason for such a disrespectful post, specially cause its WRONG.

Period instruments is a very common term with a specific meaning. Its not about "harpsichords, oboes etc..."
