    Smile Violin Concerto 1. Movements 2 & 3

I posted the first movement of my Violin Concerto 1, on October 5, 2010, and am now posting the 2nd and 3rd movements and hope that you will enjoy the music.
The 2nd movement is slow and contemplative, whilst the final, 3rd movement, is fast and furious.

The 2nd part didn't do much for me. The introduction has good ideas and orchestration and is contemplative (not unsimilar in structure to the introduction of mvmt 1), but the violin didn't add to it, and it seems to break off before the ideas have had a chance to develop. The 3rd is much more lively, offers contrast in the whole concerto, and has a real role for the solo instrument, and has more development/variation. But the first movement remains my favorite.

    Hi there Antony!
Well, I'd have to say you may have something working here because I am of the opposite view as my friend, Theo. Although I listened to the 3rd mvmt first, then the 2nd, I found myself sincerely enjoying both movements. There is certainly enough material in either to fuel an expansive elaboration, if you chose to, but sometimes the short and sweet is fine.
I can hear you drawing out the passion in some of the themes and it adds real colour.
    Thanks for sharing!

    Best regards,

    Hello FLWard,
I am very appreciative of your thoughtfull feedback, although on this occasion, I have not pleased you, in the way you describe, concerning the 2nd movement. My inclination is to offer you the 2nd movement of my Violin Concerto No 2, which was my first thread in the Listening Room, back on the 12th July, this year. If you have already heard this piece, I do apologise for trying to impose it on you for a second time, but if you havnt already heard it, I trust you will consider that the movement doesnt break off prematurely. Indeed, it takes some stopping !

Thank you once again for your valued feedback, Antony

    Hello Sd Cisco,
I am pleased, and relieved that you 'took' to the 2nd movement, because I put my heart and sole into the somewhat short and, indeed, abrupt, part that the solo violin plays in the movement.
I hope that you will forgive me for offering you my first 'Thread', started on 12 July, this year, and if you have already heard the piece, I do apologise. It does 'go on' a bit - but it is one of my own favorite compositions !!

Thank you for coming to my rescue, Antony

To put it simply: you can't please everyone. And I thought the 1st movement was pretty good. But I listened to the 2nd movement of your 2nd Concerto, and indeed, I find that much more to my taste. There are some wonderful ideas in there, and you do explore them without any haste, allowing them to sing their song. The structure reminds me a bit of Sibelius' concerto, as does your accompaniment. I think it's really good.
