    Composition Lessons Available Online

Established composer/orchestrator Dave Connor is taking students for online study. The course moves from harmony (basic to advanced) to linear writing (counterpoint) to orchestration and even midi mockup skills. Anyone from beginning to advanced composers looking to widen their palette of musical expression is welcome. Results are immediate and can be used to develop a highly personal style based upon your own musical sensibility. You will have your own sound not somebody else.

You may hear examples of Dave's compositions at his website http://www.daveconnor.net or here: http://vsl.co.at/en/67/3848/4732.vsl for the full length renditions of "Turning" and "Motive." Numerous styles and compositional devices can be found in these demos which can be discussed in the lessons.

Rates are very reasonable with lessons purchased four at a time (one month.) Payment is through paypal. There are a limited amount of slots for study so please book your first month as soon as possible.

Please email for further information or to schedule your lessons.

Note: Those living in the Los Angeles area may consider studying in person.

    Best,

    Dave Connor

    Re: Composition Lessons Available Online

    To anticipate a few questions:

The Lessons are taught using Skype.

I provide materials and lessons but will also be referencing the Kent Kennan book The Technique of Orchestration as well as Persichetti's Twentieth Century Harmony. The books are not necessary right away however.

Some composers have a desire to focus on something in particular immediately to facilitate a current or upcoming project which is perfectly acceptable. If not, the student will be brought along a logical unfolding course that builds toward a depth of musical knowledge that can be applied to anything from small ensembles (including Pop, Rock or Jazz bands) to large orchestral ensembles.

The lessons aren't rigid and have the quality of addressing areas the student is interested in. Again this is fine but it will not be at the expense of laying the proper foundation which is so important to the overall course.

The student will be given exercises weekly.

    Re: Composition Lessons Available Online

There is no website yet but if you email me either at dconnor70@gmail.com or connor.lessons@gmail.com I will try and answer your questions.

Suffice to say it is a complete course in harmony (traditional to modern film) counterpoint (as it applies to modern film and arranging rather than classical forms such as fugue) and orchestration for both small and large orchestral ensembles. Also midi mockup techniques are available to those who are interested.

I am hoping to post a small lesson here so people can get an idea of some of the material, it's presentation and usefulness.

Beginning, intermediary, and well known established composers are taking the course so there is something for everybody.

    HTH,

    Dave Connor
