    iLok experience? (also E/W PLAY)

I have 2 EastWest programs that I'd like to upgrade but they now require an iLok hardware dongle with Pace copy protection .
I moved away from Pace when I left Antares Autotune and am hesitant to return to it.
Any experience with either E/W PLAY or iLok ?

    Thanks,
    Fred

I have the EWQL Silver edition sample library.

The Play module did not "play" well with my system. After I updated to the latest Play, everything seems to be working as it should.

There is some general information, although not sourced, here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ILok

I haven't used iLok, but it doesn't look appealing to me. The main obstacle as I see it is the cost: nearly $40. It's not that I can't afford it, but it feels like such a ripoff to pay extra in order to use software legally. I also don't like the idea of the device potentially interfering with computer processes.

I'd love to see vendors like EastWest adopt Garritan's new copy protection scheme (with ARIA). It seems a little too good to be true, though. I wonder if there are any reports on how easily or how often it's been broken.

I don't like the iLok system but with this particular company (EW) it is a necessary evil. Fortunately, I received the iLok free as a bonus with my EWQL Silver edition sample library purchase.

ilok is really not much of an issue. Assuming there aren't any problems, it only takes about 5 minutes or so to get things up and running. The only thing I would suggest is that you make sure to use the microsoft internet explorer when going online to authorize your key, since I have had problems in the past using other browsers.

I have 5 or 6 pieces of software with ilok authorization, and once I got my licenses loaded on, I haven't had to think about it since. The key just sits in the back of my computer, untouched.

If you are worried about security of your studio, ilok does have some sort of protection where your license expires every few months, and you have to renew it. If your key is stolen, however, they will let you redownload all of your authorizations (since the stolen key will stop functioning soon). It takes a little effort, but is insurance in case of theft. I haven't used it, but for someone who was concerned, it is certainly a good idea.

No problems with either iLok or Play 2 here.

Been running iLok with all my EWQL libraries (and 14 more programs) (see signature) for the last few years with absolutely no problems (touch wood), so provided your system is solid and you install correctly, I suggest you're safe to proceed.............frank
Cubase 7.0.3, Wavelab 7.1, Omnisphere, Trilian, Stylus RMX, Symphobia 1 & 2 , all Spitfire libraries, LASS 2, Requiem Pro, Voxos, Superior Drummer 2, Komplete 8, Cinematic Guitars, most EW libraries, Chris Hein Horns, Guitar & Bass, 2.8 GHz Mac Pro, 18 GB RAM, OS 10.6.8, RME Multiface II + HDSP PCIe

love/hate. i run on a mobile setup, which makes it annoying. i have to remember to bring the dongle with me if i plan on working on the road, and often there are 'oh, hey let me play this for you' situations where it sucks to not have it with me.

it functions as advertised however...i find the registration process painless, and i've seldom had problems with it not being recognized, etc.

also, i've heard that the drivers have not been updated for 64-bit (maybe only on the mac side), which is consequently holding up any developers that use it.
