    Spectrasonics new Sample File Server

    from Spectrasonics press release:
Mac users of Omnisphere and Trilian who are still using 32-bit DAWs will appreciate the new ‘Sample File Server’ option for addressing memory outside of a 32-bit host’s limits - which greatly improves the headroom users need to load large sounds and more instances in busy sessions and while still keeping the creative flow going. When the ‘Sample File Server’ is activated in Omnisphere’s or Trilian’s System Page, the virtual instrument is no longer limited by the memory constraints of 32-bit DAWs. In v1.2 of its STEAM Engine, Spectrasonics has provided practical memory access solutions for both 32-bit and 64-bit users.
Wow. Brilliant idea! Since I'm stuck in NYC on a mix, can someone please ask Eric or other Spectrasonics rep at NAMM about this...
    1. will this work on PPC macs?
    2. What about latency?? Will it introduce any more latency than the host, or will this be transparent?
    3. Can this speed up load times by saving memory states?
    4. is there an upper limit of ram usage -- does the sample file server have a 4gb partition PER instance or per plug, or does it share ram with all open instances of Omni/Trilian ?

Sounds great -- looking forward to hearing more about this. Have a great NAMM.

The server is completely transparent and has no impact on performance or latency or loading times. The server itself has no 4GB limit on the amount of RAM you can access because the server, which is shared by Spectrasonics plugins, is 64 bit.
