Topic: Overture - suggest a name?

    Overture - suggest a name?

    No name yet for this.

This is my first attempt using a full orchestra with GPO. It's still a work in progress as I am having a little trouble with balancing instruments especially with stereo and pan (as I've only got one amplifier and no headphones) so all instruments are centred.

With the main melody, I have incorporated it into a concerto for Piano - first movement finished, but not orchestrated yet - going to be a while.

    Hi Peter;
I have listened through and thought the sections with lots of instruments sounded rich and dramatic. As far as what to call it, you said it was an overture, but not said an overture to what? It sounds, to my impressionable ears at least, like a dark and stormy war torn landscape, makes me think of Europe and WW2.
The more complex sections (number of instruments-wise) really sounded pretty good and were quite effective.

    Thanks for sharing.
    Best regards,

    Thanks for the comment.

Not an overture to anything in particular (much like Hebrides, 1812 et al). However, your suggestion pertaining to the sea, storm and war sounds interesting.

    Hi Peter,

I hope I got the right piece... the one labeled Overture, I assume.

Peter, there's some fine work in this -- I truly enjoyed the writing.
But you really must get at least headphones... lol! With some
shining up of the rendering on this, it'd be a real knock-out -- all
    the basics are there.

    Looking forward to hearing more!

    My best,

    Hi David,

Thanks for the encouraging remark. Headphones are number one on my xmas list - lol.

This is really worth some extra rendering. You made it and now hoping that you will get decent headphones. Really nice doing... and a name for this Overture "Overture to the Book of Sorrows?"

Got headphones today - Beyer Dynamic DT100.

I'll keep you updated on overture.

It's wonderful having these headphones - don't get to disturb anyone.

New rendered version of Overture now complete - all there's remaining is a name - a few suggestions already - enjoy.

ps I think I may have cut the end off slightly too early, will fix that later, but not at moment as it is now 4am.
