External DVD Drive for Giga System/ or should I network?

I have a yr old soundchaser system (without a dvd drive) and am now building another system. I\'m trying to figure out if I should put a a dvd drive in the soundchaser system (So I can load part of VSL) or just network it with the other system that has a DVD drive. Are the transfer speeds significantly slower over a LAN??

    Thanks,

    Colin

I am installing DVD drives in all my machines, since they are about as cheap as CD drives. But I have one machine without DVD and I installed via LAN from that, and the speed of the LAN seems to be faster than the DVD drive so it didn\'t impose any significant speed decrease, if any.

I would go with LAN - You can access the dvd of other machine, and everything else..(files, print, MIDI using midioverlan, etc..)

If you choose the DVD, sooner or latter, you will need to pass some file, from one machine to another...

Of course, the best solution is DVD+LAN...
