    VSL Appassionata Strings

Oh my God these sound so lovely! This will be the quickest $600 I ever spent!

Thankfully it's only 18 gigs as well!

Very well done by the VSL team.

Anyone more than me who immediatly thinks of GOS when you hear the 'color' of these? It sounds like VSL's version of GOS, kind of ...
Lush, darker, bigger and more bottom heavy than VSLs 'regular' strings.

Is the standard edition 18 gigs, or is that the size of both standard and extended? To me, it looks like both are 18 gigs total, but I could be wrong.

Are you getting both the standard and extended versions? I would love to know if the portamento stuff is well represented in the standard lib.

You always receive standard and extended version.

You have the serial for the standard. You need to buy
the serial for the other BUT you have 30 days free.

DON'T FORGET to buy the usb key. If you have Tascam GVI
or Steinberg products, you can use the same. You need one
per computer ... not one per sampler

Product received!!! The vendor (unnamed - I don't think they advertise here) bumped up the delivery from the 2-day that I paid for to overnight. Nice touch!

This is my first Vienna Instrument and I'm still trying to get my head around the player and how to integrate it into my workflow. Up until now, I've been running everything through GS3's GigaPulse. Hmm. Now what to do? (Without spending more money on verbs. There's the Giovani GB to consider!)

Anyway, it's too early to give a review, and I am certainly not ready to pound out a good demo. But I will say that the sections sound full and the articulations solid. And if it sounds this good dry and without EQ, I expect that it will deliver the goods.

Oh yeah, I can confirm that the extended samples are available to me here on day one, even though I just bought the standard set. I can also confirm that the bass articulations are as weak as the listing on the website - even with the extended set included. That's got to be the one soft spot with this lib. Oh well. It's about half the price of the Orchestral Strings, so there it is!

    Jon,

The video tutorials are extremely helpful to get up and running with the VI interface. They're at the VSL site of course.

I still don't like the demos :/ it sounds like a very old string orchestra for a silent movie...
