Augustinius Kropfreiter - 3 Stueke for Oboe and Organ

Augustinus Kropfreiter (b. 1936) has been the organist at St. Florians in Vienna (Bruckner's church and organ) since 1960. He has written numerous solo organ works, as well as several for organ with other instruments. Here is the first of 3 pieces in his "Drei Stueke", subtitled "Meditativ"
    http://www.evensongmusic.net/kropfre...an3Stueke1.mp3

At first this sounded really strange to me, but after several listens, I began to hear shades of Debussy in his scales and harmony, and I've really enjoyed it since then

I'll be posting the remaining 2 mvts as I get them interpreted to my liking. This recording uses GPO for the solo oboe, and samples of a 1966 Marcussen organ prepared by Ariaan Hoogendijk, played throught the freeware organ sample player MyOrgan. 100 ft impulse response for the oboe, 125 ft for the organ.

    Enjoy!

I really like the organ samples - they have a warnth to them I haven't heard in most libraries.

    Thanks for posting these pieces.

    Thanks, Stephen!

I can't take credit for the writing - that was the genius of Kropfreiter

Mvt 3 will be on the way shortly, finishing the set.

I enjoyed the performance very much for all the movements. I like the calm 2nd movement best.

What a remarkable piece of writing... the sense of
    motion, of breathing, painted in waves across time;
and the harmonic coloring is superb, subtle...

It does take a couple of listens to absorb it, become
part of it and comfortable with it... the "trick' seems
to be to just let it flow over you, not try to consciously
follow or analyze the flowing and ebbing of it.

The rendering on this is also excellent... that Marcussen
    would definitely fool me.

Looking forward to the other two members of this set,
Jonathan... most interesting -- but then, you consistently
do come up with some fascinating gems!

    All my best,

    Edit:

    That was the first one...

Just noticed I didn't notice the other two... lol. Back
    for those momentarily...

    Two & three...

On two, yes, well, TH & I would be likely to devour
    that one, eh?

But the third one, a perfect closer for the set, was
the most interesting, to me. Unfortunately, I have
    no idea why
    ...

This writing is, needless to say, unique -- it has a
self-contained logic to it; unconventional, entirely
self-referential; but the more you listen to it, the
    more it makes sense.

Fascinating set, Jonathan! I'd be delighted to hear
    more by this writer.
