Topic: "Piano Sonata Number Eight" (excerpt)

    "Piano Sonata Number Eight" (excerpt)

Here is the first movement of my Eighth Piano Sonata.

The piano is the GPO Steinway.

Look for some pianistic shenanigans around the 01:50 mark.

I don't understand your message. I have no idea what anything means except for your closing line.

Just my sense of humour! On relistening, I fast forwarded to hear the unexpected events at 1:50 again and managed to hang Media Player!! I enjoyed your sonata Larry - a fun, jolly piece with some unexpected twists.

The sound quality of piano is very good. I hav'nt been able to get my GPO piano to sound as good as yours. Do you do anything special for the sound. Anyway, I like your excerpt. I thought some harmonies were a little out of place for the style that it seemed you were presenting, but it sounded very nice.

Nothing special for the piano sound. It's just the GPO Steinway "out of the box" more or less.

Would you like to point out which harmonies you thought were "a little out of place for the style..."?

This one surprised me a little, Larry, as it leaned
a century or so forward of your more usual style
    in your serious works.

Very well done! There's seasoning and a quality
of the unexpected in this in places that I found
most satisfying, both melodically and harmonically.

Larry, I would be most interested to hear the
complete sonata when you get there!

Don't misunderstand me. I thought the piece was very nice. You played a 6th chord of some sort around :30 and several other spots. It just sounded kind of like a harmony that would be played in a contemporary 'pop' tune rather that a traditional piano sonata type of tune. I am probably just being 'anal'. Anyway, thanks for posting it.

The sonata is complete but I'm not especially impressed with movements two and three, Mr. Dave. I will GPOize them when I can and let you be the judge of the merits or lack thereof.

    Thanks for listening.
