Musical Saw: Something Garritan hasn't sampled yet

    http://www.myspace.com/thesawlady

I came across a world-renowned musical saw player with a page on MySpace, and asked her to be Friends with our Garritan Christmas page. She sent me a note indicating that several of the recordings on her page use Garritan Personal Orchestra to accompany her acoustic saw.

Her name is Natalia Paruz, and the composer and arranger, whom I think is her husband, is named Scott R. Munson.

Check out the link above and listen to her song samples.

I've heard some performances on the saw; it sounds very close to a theremin.

This should be interesting to check out; thanks!

That's some very cool saw playing, Wheat. I may decide to attend that tool auction afterall. Since you called it her "acoustic saw," i have to ask, people aren't playing electric saws too, are they?

I read something recently about a composer who incorporated chainsaws into his pieces. But you'd have to be really careful how you held your bow...

and the players next to them always have to watch out when they take a bow at the end of the performance

Oh no...I feel like going and sampling the chainsaw out in the garage now and putting it into Kontakt. Also, I would have Kontakt automatically create the different pitches for it like it usually does when you map a sample to multiple keys. Forget the Ode of Joy, these samples will let us compose the Ode of Destruction
