Arrow Upgrading Studio - Love to hear some suggestions

Hello there (and thanks everyone on forum - I greatly appreciate all the time and knowledge on this forum)

I do alot of sequencing / looping along side live tracks on a Dual 2G G5 / 3.5G RAM with Pro Tools LE 7.3 ( DIGI 002 ) as my audio AND MIDI master

I also have a dual P4 2G / 2G RAM PC dedicated to GIGA STUDIO.
I have a very nice set of GIGA samples but have increasingly been investing in Virtual Insterments and running them on my Mac as RTAS plug-ins.

I am starting to run out of proccessing power on the Mac when using multiple plugins in Pro Tools LE and do not want to install Kompact/Intakt players on my dedicated GIGA Machine (becuase it work just fine now and I fear taunting it)

Thinking of either getting another dedicated machine for a Virtual Instrmt Player but wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions as I would have to find another ways to get audio into my DIGI 002 from a new machine.

Any and all feedback greatly appreciated.

Re: Upgrading Studio - Love to hear some suggestions

I just started to expand my system with mac minis.
My calculation is: 1G5 costs as much as 4 mac minis.
So with 4 mac minis I have 8GB usable ram, 500GB disc space,
4 times faster HDs because streaming is splitted on several discs,
8 digital audio outputs. Less size and noise than 1 G5.

All macs can be controlled on one monitor with one keyboard and mouse using a switch.

Midi connection from the host is made with one Unitor8.

I guess, since the new intel macs run windows, its maybe possible to install
Giga on the mac mini, but I did not try that.

    And, it looks great:

Actually I just have 1 at the moment, but it works great.

Thanks for the mac mini solution, do you use the optical out? if so is there some kind of converter or can you send it right back to the optical in of a G5 if that is your master machine?

Also, do you use a monitor/ keyboard switcher or apple remote desktop?

I ordered this switch, but its not deliverd yet, so I don't know how it works:

To use the digital audio out, you need a toslink adapter like this:

I still use a mixer, but you could also connect the audio out to
any audio interface or the digital in of your master mac.
