    Your favourite orchestra

Hi, This has been mensioned about a million times before but for that hollywood sound. What orchestra is the BEST?
I think I bought the "wrong" one.....I bought Kirk Hunters ruby & emerald.

What do you use and recommend?

Remember you won't ever reach hollywood sound with any libraries. But EWQLSO is getting closer and closer to hollywood sound especially on strings/trumpets/percussions ( and mezzoforte horns )

And the EWQLSO pro expansion ( XP ) is a must have, for fast strings staccato rhythms... very hollywood-ish

For horns i recommend either Sam Project or Vienna Epic Horns.
Trombones = VSL trombones or Sam project

EWQLSO woodwinds sound terrible ( in the wrong way ) , solo oboe for instance sounds nice but detuned on a few notes . I recommend VSL for woodwinds , VSL opus 1 if you want true legato .

    - VSL French oboe ( because the oboe in VSL opus 1 is a Viennese Oboe which doesnt sound quite like the french one )

I've had Gold for a long time and then I bought KH Emerald.
Now, the only thing I use from EW Gold is the percussion.

"I find" ... that all of Emerald's strings, wwinds and brass are more expressive, more controlable when playing from a keyboard and easier for me to mix.
I really appreciate the dryness of Emerald samples.

Westgate Studios also offers true legato on their flute, oboe and English horn. The rest of the woodwinds and French horn are to follow...

Opus' legato patches have a small number of separate dynamic layers. Westgate has five and they're integrated into a single patch. The layers are somewhat closely spaced, sacrificing dynamic range a bit, but making it perfectly playable. I use GS3's DEF filter on the woodwinds, extending the dynamic range up and down, giving me the tone that I wan't for a given passage and making the instruments subtly expressive.

I can hardly wait for the flute DVD to be released (including piccolo, alto flute and flute ensemble). And I would imagine that the clarinet download isn't too far off. I'll be ordering them the day they're released.

That was great carter! Do you have a web page?

Do you use EWQLSO "out of the box" ? (it's recorded with reverb isn't it?)

    Re: Your favourite orchestra

I don't have one yet , i'm building it. I need to do some more pieces of music before opening it

I completely used EWQLSO Gold XP out of the box for the strings, it's a great library.

For the trombones i used the performance upbeats from the opus 1 etc...

You know a great sound is also a matter of a good programming

Yes,and good programming you've done sir. Can I take a peak at your page?I'm in the same phase as you but I have just begun using samples and I've been gone from my computer for 2 years! That's hell not being able to compose. www.angelfire.com/film/score3 I'm just a beginner and that theme is a bit childlish or something
I have also made the home page design ALL by myself. And I have no experience what so ever in photoshop or regardless of design.
    Hope you like it

If you're referring to me Steve Karl, you can hear Emerald stuff at my site.
The newest 2 pieces are all Emerald, except for the percussion.
"Slot Canyon Calm" "Slot Canyon Deluge"

There are some very exposed Emerald parts in "Slot Canyon Calm"
and some strong section trade offs at the end of it.

All pizz strings are a sound font I got off of the internet a few yrs. back
and converted to .gig. Can't remember the name of it.

If you want to hear stuff I did that is all EWGold listen to:
"Circo Tango" and Rascallion Waltz" "One Hearts Azimuth"

In between the 2 suggestions above there are times I'm using some EWGold brass or wwinds.

I started using Emerald Strings exclusively beginning with "Egyptology: Enter the Museum" There is 1 line in that piece that is an EW Solo Violin, ... the slow melody, near the beginning.
The fast solo violins are Emerald.

The harp is always Giga Harp, except for some real early stuff that used the harp in EWGold.
