Smile Away in a manger (cradle song)

Hi my friends, it seems that we are all getting into the Christmas mood so here's a simple arrangement I did on William James Kirkpatrick Away in a manger (cradle song). It's with same instrumentation as my Joy to the world arrangement except no timpani and the percussionist uses triangle instead of tamborine.

    Listen!

I reharmonized the choral so it is not the usual harmonization used, though it isn't atonal hehehe...
    Sincerely,
    Falcon1

    Falcon,

Excellent arrangement and rendering of this fine Chirstmas tune. The reharmonization worked fine, not extreme at all.

A very lovely arrangement of this, Falc; just
beautiful. Much enjoyed -- especially some
    of the harmonic work.

    Stephan:

Great harmonic flow on this and the brass is really excellent.

    Thanks for posting this.

Cool Re: Away in a manger (cradle song)

    Thanks Rhap2

yes, I tried to make the harmony more flowing and more interesting than in the harmonization which are quite standard today for this carol. However, I also thought that too much adventurism wouldn't serve the tune or the text of the carol.
So the result could maybe described as quite romantic harmonization but with some influences from J.S. Bach harmony traditions.

Anyway, I'm quite happy with the result and I'm glad that other people like it too.

I think I will just try to arrange more carols and hymns with this instrumentation and probably publish it within few years. Is there any special carol or hymns you would like to see and hear my take on?
    Sincerely,
    Falcon1
