Cheap or low cost vst stand alone host

I just got Ivory installed, and it is everything I had hoped it would be, and more.

But It looks like the Mac folks are the only ones who can use it as a stand alone. I get a little tired of starting Cubase everytime I want to play it, and I remember seeing some free or very inexpensive host which would run as stand alones and host vst's. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Cantabile Lite, I believe, does what you're loooking for.

    and it's free!

(Cantabile Full is $25 and has a few more bells and whistles, though those may not accompany a grand piano too well...)

    I like brainspwan forte.

It supports VSTi's, DXi's and VST and DX effects and also supports rewire.

I use Brainspawn Forte Ensemble also but if you just want to play the one plugin standalone try savihost, it's freeware. It's basically a wrapper that's an executable program. It only supports one pair of ASIO outputs at a time but should see them all. You can also only pick one MIDI in port so if you need merged inputs it needs to happen with your hardware.

Cakewalk and Cubase have scaled down versions of their flagship products. I'm sure the Cubase supports VST. One of them might have been bundled with the sample software or hardware you all ready own. (Look on the installation discs before you buy anything.)

Chainer from Xlutop can be another option, and works well.

Thanks for all the help. Forte looks great, but I opted for a freebie..

Cantabile Lite has a great interface, but crashed...

However, SAVIhost is brilliant, and exactly what I wanted. I put a shortcut on my desktop. Click it, and Ivory pops up ready to play. Thanks so much, bnmoore, this is PERFECT!!

(didn't get a chance to try Chainer)...

That's odd. I'd expected it to work, seeing as Ivory appears loaded into the app in a screenshot...

Glad you found what you were looking for though.
