    Basoon Fantasia

I wrote this Fantasia for a friend in the UK. I was asked to produce a version for Euphonium and one for Tuba. Ironically those two versions have sold well - no one but my friend has done the Bassoon version! Go figure.
    It can be heard here:

This one almost slipped by me. That would have been my loss. Some fine writing here - wonderful harmonic language, fascinating rhythmic contrasts. I'd love to hear this piece performed live. This one's going in my private folder for repeat listening. Thanks for posting it.

I'll go with Tom on this one; the harmonic vocabulary is
delicious; and the rich contrasts and disciplined writing
make the work a real pleasure to the ear.

Excellent piece, Joe; I thoroughly enjoyed listening.

I might suggest a little more attention to sound
    treatment.

    My best,

I don 't know about this piece.... unfamiliar. But I love the harmonics in your chords. They surprised me while this piece was playing towards the end. Nice pianowork.

Thanks all for the comments and compliments. Tom it looks like 2007 before a live performance that I know of (publisher has sold 6 Euphonium and six Tuba versions but I don't know who is doing it). Looks like the first live I can get my hands on will be by my friend Charley Brighton in 2007 - on the Euphonium. The bassoon version is expected even later in the year. Yes David I am not a good "mixer" on sound. My ensemble pieces really suffer usually.

Patience young Luke...a performance will come to you

At least you have some sales to point to.

And yes I agree with the others, very nice composition!! You should sell more!

Thanks gary I'll be patient. Most of the performances have taken place on the other side of the pond which makes attending the concerts a little difficult. That's where my real frustration is.

    Re: Basoon Fantasia/terrible news

The user by the name of Joemis was the composer Joe Miserendino.

He passed away on august 6th, from a cancer against which he had been battling.

While his profile here says that he "did not make any friends", I would have to take exception to that statement, and say that his presence enriched a great many of us and our lives, and he will be dearly missed.

I know this post is old, and that people no longer have the chance to hear his music as his website is closed. I think this is a terrible shame.

    you made me cry.
Thank-you. I thought that all of Joseph's music would now be impossible to find.

yes, Joe wrote huge amounts of music for brass and woodwinds.
he had a wonderful gift and a very unique way of displaying it.
