A wee bit o' harp music...

I wrote this at 3 AM when I should have been doing homework or getting a good night's rest... thus, I was falling asleep as this was written. I hope it doesn't show too much.

I am not sure if some of those passages are even possible to play.

Nice Sean, how many harpists does it require? It's at least two to get all that in. I think you might find it a bit fast for real harpist, but the sound is good in GPO. I hope the harpists has a lot of callous on her/his fingers.

    Good writing.

    Sean,

Nice jamming at the harps, even if it was written while you were asleep

    Homework? Bah.

And this simply proves that you should stay up
all night and write more, Sean.

This is a bit of a brisk run for a single harpist
unequipped with a third hand, true, but it's a
lovely piece, my friend. (Seriously, I think a
strong harpist would be able to do it, though.)

Might I suggest slowing it slightly, and perhaps
    scoring for harp and celesta?

Nice flow and mood to this, Sean; I like it.

    Good pattern and sequence work!

Does it have a motif? Listening to it the second time I seem to notice quite many of them but no clear winner.

It has no overall motif... it's a bit of a jumble. Lots of little patterns though... this may be due to my sleeping mind. Thanks for listening!

I might have to design a robot harpist. I was a bit uncareful about its true playability... I tried slowing it down a bit, and I like the results, so hopefully I will post that soon. Thanks for your comments!

Thanks for listening! I did try slowing it down a bit, which not only makes some of the notes more audible, it should make it more playable as well... I'd hate to abuse a harpist... I tried adding a celesta, but then I got carried away and it's turned into another piece... By the way, I noticed you have surpassed my post count! You'll be in the 4000 club before me.

    Thank you for listening everyone!

    HI Sean,

I do not have much to add to other comments; nice sound of harp.

You might want to check this useful link (harp does and don’ts):

That has a very refreshing sound to it.

I dont think it would hurt the insistent rhythmic flow, if you played about with the tempo a little.
Push the odd bar 5 bpm faster, slow down the odd section by 10 bpm.
Playing with the tempo map can have a huge impact on midi produced Music.
    Particularly Solo stuff.
In bigger ensembles, slower speaking instruments and modwheel crossfades, ameliorate the constancy of tempo.

The GPO harp is an absolute beauty, it amazes me that we dont hear more of it in this forum.

    Lovely piece Sean. !!

Thanks for listening Joaz! I will try fooling around with the tempo more. You can definitely hear fluctuating tempos in solo live performances, but getting it in midi data isn't so easy (unless you can play it on a midi keyboard... which I cannot). I'll definitely see what I can do.

    ha !
who needs realistic harp? Sonds fun the way it is. I bet it could even branch out into something else.

Nice to listen to. Very creative.
