Prelude to 'The Afternoon of a Faun' (Debussy)

Here is a GPO realization of Debussy's masterpiece.

Jack, the forum must be asleep on this one.

    An excellent job on this difficult-to-render masterpiece;
    very, very well done.

The one thing I might suggest is perhaps just a touch
more reverb. (I don't think I've ever said that before.)

Welcome aboard, by the way -- and a heck of a fine
    introduction at that, Jack!

    My best,

    David,

    Thanks very much.

I think I added a little reverb ('Concert Hall Lite' from Cool Edit Pro).

Often I feel that Ambience is too heavy, and I don't really know how to make adjustments to it other than selecting one preset or another.

I often have great difficulty in deciding how much is too much, both in regard to reverb, and also in regard to the overall recording volume.

    Thanks again for your comments.

Interestingly, I've heard these pieces literally hundreds of times over the years and yet, as with all new interpretations, my attention was focused on some inner details that I hadn't noticed before. That's always nice. Debussy and Ravel (I listened to the other files on your site too) are original loves of mine - they represent the pure essence of beauty in music to me. Thanks for posting these.

I must admit, I've never heard this piece before, but this was a pleasing introduction to it! I love Debussy's orchestral color, especially that pizzicato and harp... warm yet light at the same time. Nice work!

    Jack,

This is a very nice rendering of this very difficult work. It is challanging when it is also amoungst your first GPO endevors to get the bugs worked out. But each piece just gets better.

Looking forward to hearing more of your output.
