EZX - Why more expensive in Sweden?

The EZX expansion packs are 21% more expensive in Sweden, than in Europe !!! Why?

Less competition, more VAT? This is generally the case with music software/sample libraries in Denmark. I would imagine Sweden is fairly similar in this respect.

Re: EZX - Why more expensive in Sweden?

Decades of socialism and communism have left their marks on competition and taxes in Sweden. As a more liberal Dutchman living in Sweden, I can only hope for changes in the upcoming election this month...

I almost always order music equipment and software from Germany or Holland. Saves you a *lot* of money, apart from having a broader choice of decent webshops.

The times I ordered from Sweden (Musicbörsen), I always had issues of on sort or another. Thanks to being forced by the EU and globalisation (another word despised by Sweden's left), we now at least can do so without paying additional import taxes. Only a few years ago one had to pay a high import fee when collecting a simple free package at the postoffice from fellow European countries. Still, ordering alcohol over the web isn't allowed (state monopoly), but that's another topic

Communism in Sweden??? What on earth are you talking about?

I'm not sure I see the problem here. If you see these expansion packs at lower prices in Germany or the UK, just buy them from there.

    No, politics, please ....
The EZdrummer was and is about the same price in Sweden and the rest of Europe. So, I more like wondered if there had been an mistake when calculating the different prices of the EZXes?

Lars Ohly is not now nor has he ever been part of a Swedish government - and the same goes for the rest of his party. This is your "decades of communism"??? Again I have to ask, what on earth are you on about?

Sorry about your thread, Sture - I just couldn't leave this unanswered.

    Yossarian,

You obviously haven't got a clue about the reality in Sweden.
Please do not hijack this thread to misinform people.

The valid question was raided here of why a given item was more expensive in Sweden.
Prices largely depend on things like taxes, cost of labour and competition.
Sweden has in many surveys the worlds highest taxes. As a company owner, I can assure you labour costs are another real problem.

Like it or not, what is all this controlled by? Politics perhaps?

Since 1910, Sweden is 'blessed' with a communist party that governs with the social democrats: aka 'vänsterblocket'. This has led to excessive taxation, administrative red tape and a lack of business focus. While most countries in Europe are cleaning up and incorporate more liberal policies, Sweden has choosen to go its own way.

Below's link is good for a laugh, or cry dependent on where you live

    Robert,

With all due respect, you were the one who started the hijacking by making a sweeping, unsubstantiated and obviously ill-informed statement. If anyone is spreading misinformation it’s you. For starters, you might want to read up on the definitions of “coalition” and “minority government” (hint: the present Swedish government is in the second category).

Again, the communist party has never governed Sweden and I can’t for the life of me understand where you got this idea. Name me one single communist cabinet member of one single Swedish government or kindly refrain from making these ridiculous claims.

If you knew anything about Swedish 20th century history you’d know that the Social Democratic party has followed a rather zealous anti-communist line over the years with detentions of communist party members during WWII and covert intelligence gathering against communists during the cold war (you might want to look up the “IB-affair” for references on this).

Your contention that Swedish Social Democratic governments have followed a communist line makes me wonder if you even know what the word means. I’ve lived in Sweden all my life, forgive me for not recognizing myself in your description of Sweden as a communist state.

Again, my apologies to Sture for wrecking his thread but this kind of nonsense really rubs me the wrong way.

    Yossarian,

I won't argue with you on this issue out of respect for forum rules.

By the way, my wife hapens to be from Sweden, and teaches history.
I have the slight feeling you probably also would disagree with her arguably more educated opinion

So, instead of trying to turn politics upside down, could you perhaps contribute by helping answering this thread's original question?
