O Worship The King - Brass Band Arr.

This arrangement for brass band is based on the well known hymn tune, "O Worship The King". It is a set of variations on the main theme tastefully written by Nigel Horne ( http://www.bandsman.co.uk ).

I have set his score for brass using the GPO and JABB libraries. The cornets are rendered using trumpets and the Horns, Baritones and Euphonium parts by F Horns in the appropriate instrument ranges.

    Gary,

    this is upraising music!

Is there a triangle anywhere in the background? I did not know this qualifies as a brass instrument nowadays .

For me, your cornet-trumpets sound very cornet-ish!

    Hannes,

I agree with you. Mr. Horne did a splendid job in arranging this piece. I was playing this in my mind all day at work.

Triangle...fits nicely into the percussion family, an integrel part of every brass band

The trumpets do a nice job in place of the cornets. But there is no substitute for the real instruments along with the classic British brass band vibrato.

    Hi Gary,
Nice sounds. One good sound for the Euphoniums is using
the Tuba which sounds nice in the upper range.

    Thanks Gary.

Actually I find that using the GPO 2nd Plr 3 F Horn in the bass cleff range of the Euphonium produces a more realistic sound. The Tuba in the upper range is still not as crisp as the F Horn is in its low range.

Yes! Good music, and a good transposition for GPO. This is a great Piece and a masterfully work by you, Gary. I enjoyed listening.

Is the crackling at the end only in my headphones, or is it a reason to remix the piece at this part?

An absolutely superb set of variations on Nigel Horne's part,
Gary -- and very well rendered.

    What a pleasure!

    Thanks for this one...

Thanks so much for your kind comments. Mr. Horne did such a splendid job on this theme and variations this well know hymn tune. It was a great pleasure to add the GPO sounds to it.

The crackling at the end is in the low brass, slight over modulation and I have fixed by turning down the throttle slightly. The bass trombone does have a slight natural buzz to it that adds to the effect. It will be updated on Mr. Horne's site in the near future with the improved mp3 file.

Thanks David. Mr. Horne and I have worked on a couple of other pieces that I plan to post here in the near future. His work is finely detailed and it a pleasure to be able to present the GPO renderings here for everyone.
