    I'm-a Gettin' K2 this week

    Friends...

I have taken advantage of the NI x-grade offer & sprung for a copy of Kontakt 2 to complement my GPO, JABB, and Overture 4.

Given the fact that I'm working in notation solely, but with a notation program that has great sequencing ability, what do I have to look forward to?

Here's what I'm figuring on, at least:

*more realism in playback due to K2 scripting.
*better reverb--did I see a "drag the instrument over here" type interface for reverb?
*more instruments to complement GPO and JABB
*ability to edit & save GPO & JABB instruments as new K2 creations

So, K2 users, please enlighten me...what else is in store for me???

    Thanx...Jim

    Hoosier Person,

I have been using version 1.5 and then v. 2 for everything that I write.

Setting up your instruments in the virtual "rack" is easy because it is a "drag and drop" operation.

There ARE some nice reverbs included and the selection is very good. If you use the convolution reverb, you will experience a large hit on your computer's CPU. I would avoid this particular reverb until its CPU drain is improved in future updates.

The scripting feature is sensational, including the "humanize" function that I use on almost everything.

I am very satisfied with Kontakt 2.

What does the "humanize" function humanize?
Overture will humanize note start & stop times, tempos, & velocities
What are the K2 instruments like? Do they blend well with GPO/JABB?

There is a fine little collection of VSL instruments (among others), that blend well with GPO. You'll love them.

    That legato horn patch..........................

Oh man, I played with that for a good forty minutes non-stop

    They blend very well Jim.
    Take the strings.
The VSL sound is very airy, precise, some even say a little cold.
The GPO strings are warmer and more biddable.
Layered together they produce a superb section sound.

I quite agree about the Legato French Horns. A superbly expressive sound.
A pity they dont have Solo Legato French Horn though.

My recent Elgar Cello Concerto demo used a combination of GPO/VSL for the orchestral parts.

The Tpts , Bones and Tuba were rendered utilising SAM solo sessions. Almost worth buying for the Tuba alone. What a satisfying sound.

Although they show almost criminal negligence by omitting the Euphonium. When will these Library Developers learn, that Euphonium's are a necessity, not a luxury.

    regards Joe

So much fun with playful tweaking that your production rate rapidly decreases

Snorlax & other Kontakt 2 users

Can someone explain just how the K2 scripting will make the GPO instrument
    playback "more realistic"?

Also, I went to the Native Instruments site and listened to the K2/VSL instrument demos and wasn't very impressed. Am I missing something? Do the actual sounds sound better than their posted demos?

    thanks, klassical

TO EVERYONE: Thanx for the info...I'm working at home on Thursday so I don't miss Mr. FedEx

TO KLASSICAL: I'll let you know when I get it & start using it, or several of these fine individuals below can respond. My understanding is that scripts can do some humanization and can automate some things like sfz attacks, crfossfades, etc. That's all I think I know until I get it...perhaps the others will chime in!

K2 "humanizes" timing, velocity, tuning and volume and does a very good job of it. You can use (or not use) any combination of these four functions and each is completely adjustable.
