Cool Dept: Project a Playable Keyboard

I4U reports about a new virtual MIDI keyboard.

"When connected to a PC, this device will be able to project a laser piano keyboard, and you'll be able to jam out your favorite tunes.

Of course, this is no 88-key baby grand, but it'd be fun to take with you on a trip if you're a tech-savvy pianist."

The laser piano keyboard will be out in November for approximately $130 retail.

Maybe Holographic Instruments are the next big thing!

But but but... that's barely one hand's worth!

Can you like, stack 'em end to end or something?

That's right. The virtuosic etLux is known to play Keith Emerson style with a full keyboard for each hand on either side of him. One should be able to daisy chain 20 of these together together with the laser sostenuto pedal (but be careful and don't set those lasers on high intensity),

True enough. But then, I do have a certain added
    advantage...

    That's heavy...

But seriously, folks, I've been sort of watching the technology for a while now, waiting for it to hit - Google 'laser virtual keyboard' and see the products. Ffor that money, it should also be able to act as a QWERTY keyboard, like the iTech and Bluetooth models that are way smaller (but then they only need to project 10", not 47 1/2", and this one doesn't do that either...)

But imagine sitting at a table in a restaurant, with what looks like a tube of lipstick in front of you, typing on the tabletop, writing your report for work or school. Along comes a pretty girl, you press Alt-Ctrl-K and the keyboard projection turns into a synth keyboard including pitch wheel, mod and ribbon and you crank up "Stairway to Heaven" and morph into "A Love Supreme"...

The technology is here, just the will to fully exploit it is waiting for the right entrepreneur.

    ummm...

    Gary???

When can we expect the Garritan Laser Orchestra and Lip Gloss?
