Red face Combining audio and video into one file

    Hi,

I just finished a cue for a three minute clip, which was supplied as an Mpeg. I only have to supply an mp3, but for my own records I wanted to combine my wav file with the Mpeg and resave them as a single video file. So I put them together in Windows Video Maker. Unfortunately, when I resave it, the quality of the audio track is massively degraded. It doesn't seem to matter what format I save it in either. I tried all the 'high quality' options, some of which produced enormous files, but the audio still came out with added hiss, lost frequencies and a kind of scratchy quality.

I don't particularly want to shell out for Nuendo or Avid or anything in that league. Is there anything free or cheap which will combine my two files without trashing my wav file?

Check this out... it might be just what you want... and it's decidedly cheaper than an AVID system, lol...

    Try this one:
    http://www.virtualdub.org/

It's very popular freeware tool, that allows processing of video and audio, applying filters and combining video and audio.
    A very cheap helper

It was indeed that exact clip. I wonder how many of us here have entered.

Thanks for the help everyone. Justus, VirtualDub worked just great!

I've no idea. It was a good thing to do though. I'd be interested to hear your effort. I'll PM you a link to mine if you like.

Virtualdub rocks! And if you want a freeware Video player that plays nearly everything without the need of installing codecs, try the VideoLAN VLC player. And if you feel insatiable hunger for a good media player, you might be interested in Foobar2000.

It says the scheme has finished. Let's hear what you did if that's possible.

Also, there's a good video from macpro.com for your original question, but presumably this is for Macs only.

Sorry, I've just re-read the rules of the competition, and I'm not supposed to post my clip until I'm told I'm unsuccessful, or until the end of the campaign if I should be successful.
