    OT: rights question

    I'm working with a director who wants to use a local band's cover of a song called "Fox on the Run" in their movie. Anyone know the steps the director needs to make to do this legally? I have a couple music business books but didn't really find my answer in them. Thanks!

    Wink Re: OT: rights question

    The director must obtain two things;

    1) the syncronization right of the piece from whoever controls the copyright, usually a publisher;

    2) the permission to use a recording (master recording) from whoever controls the master, usually a recording comapny.

    To add to the last post, you can find the publisher information from the search engines on ASCAP, BMI or SESAC websites.
