    Garritan Studio

Please point me to the right spot if this isn't the best place to discuss this...

I'd like to run the Garritan Studio app standalone on my PowerBook. Problem is that I can't seem to get external MIDI into it.

Is it possible to load several players in GS and play it essentially live using incoming MIDI without a host or helper app?

If it's only possible to do this using a host app, is there one that can be recommended that is cheep and uses minimal CPU resources?

    I'd recommend Tracktion.

It is the easiest on CPU of any DAW I have seen. It hosts VST with no problems and is very nice. I use it all the time and it carries a lot o punch underneath its seemingly simple interface. (everything is in one window.)

For hosting VSTi's, without a DAW, You might also try either Plogue's Bidule

    or Steinberg's V-Stack

Both are great VST Hosts and accept external MIDI inputs and such.

Good luck and tell us which you choose.
