    First Attempt with Oboe

Near the Cross - guitar, bass and GPO oboe

    http://av1611bible.com/recordings/near.mp3

Needs some harmonies and strings but it is just a demo.

    Love this GPO

    Re: First Attempt with Oboe

    This was very, very nice!!

A pleasure to listen to on a Monday morning.

My only minor critique would be to perhaps to blend the oboe (in some areas) ie: not have each note end, but rather fade into the other.. easily achieved by extending the their value.

    ... just a thought.

    Nice work!

The oboe sounds good. Nice melody!
Maybe you could "expand" the song with another voice, a flute or something.
You could also try to do some variations in the guitar playing.
    Just my ideas!
    Good work!

Thanks a bunch for listening and the kind words.

You are absolutely right, I need to work on that - good suggestion. I guess I need to start learning how to use the controller on the keyboard and play the oboe "like a oboe"? I will try exntending the notes. Would you use the Event List for that?

    Thanks again

    God bless

Thanks engson! It is a nice melody - I wish it was mine!!! But the melody came by way of William Doane 1832-1915 and the words (when I get a vocalists - nobody in my family can sing ) were by Fanny Crosby 1820-1915.

And you are right - needs some more "help" - Since you mentioined the guitar I will try an acoustic guitar on the right with a little finger picking. A flute would be a good choice andI hope to add some simple strings also.

So much to do - so little time

    thanks again

    God bless

    Nice work on this, AV.

I would suggest a bit more attention to phrasing, perhaps a little smoother; but that's a very subjective matter.

I enjoyed hearing this, AV. Keep 'em coming.

A very sweet melody. This is ideal for an oboe. I have to agree with some of the other members here, that a little more legato phrasing would make this piece shine.

    Great piece!
