Midi Over LAN XP Machine HELP!!!!!

I have used this product MOL for a few years without any problems.

I have checked that all IP addresses are correct and port assignments are fine. But I still can't get Midi to show up within my XP machine which is the machine receiving Midi IN (into Brainspawn Forte).

I have checked IP addresses and doubled checked Forte Prefs for anything unusual but no midi messages getting out of my Mac into the XP machine.

I see in Logic that midi activity is happening. And I have played the virtual keyboard on my VSTi in Forte and I get sound.

But just can't get Midi out of MAc into XP.

Don't know what to check anymore. I've also tried unplugging cables and back in again.

    Any help on this issue???

    Much appreciated.

    Thing I can do

    Logic running in Mac:
    1. Midi In no problems, I can hear Logic synths
    2. I can see midi activity when I press a key on the piano

    XP Machine:
    1. I can load a bass in Trilogy and after hitting 'Preview note" hear the bass sound. I can load a ptach in EW Gold and play the VSTi players piano and hear a string sound.

    2. Link to the Mac and trade data files.

    3. Mac links to XP and able to copy files

    Things I can't do:

    1. Send midi from Mac to XP machine using MOL.

    2. See the XP machine show up in Mac Finder

I have checked all MOL settings on the MAC and XP machine and the both IP addresses are correct and the ports are all correct.

So I AM REALLY LOST HERE.

Any help or advice towards a solution would be very welcome.

    Many thanks in advance.

Nobody with this problem in the past? The hours seem like days when the equipment doesn't work.

    Thanks in advance.

Turned of XP firewall. now everything's okay.

Strange because I've had the firewall on for a couple years now without any problems. But this particular case, the firewall was filtering out the Midi data.

Anyway, nice conversation with myself in this thread.

Talking Re: Midi Over LAN XP Machine HELP!!!!!

Hey, We were just waiting for you to figure it out...I mean it was so obvious. Sorry not to jump in...that would have thrown me too. Odd that it should have become a problem after two years. Take care, jc

    Hi Steve,

I just opened your one man thread. Talking to yourself, eh? You might see somebody about that...

Anyway, do you have Automatic Windows Updates turned on? It's possible that Uncle Bill messed with your machine overnight and updated the firewall settings. I turn that feature off for my "creative" PCs.

Actually, this was a Contest Thread in disguise. i set it up with PapaChalk.

I simply make a computer problem and the first to get the right answer would win a brand new XP Music Computer loaded with the new Vienna Symphonic VSTi.

Anyway, no winners on this one.

    Maybe next time guys.

PS: Jon, I'll czech into that. Could be that the Windows auto update got turned on by me on accident.

I only just read your post the first time today, and seriously,my first guess was the Windows Firewall! Too bad I'm too late for the contest. . .
