    Nasty Feelings

I'm jumping in with both feet here and posting a small piece I wrote as part of a piano collection called Intervallic Etudes. This is the first etude called: Nasty Feelings and is based on the interval of the 7th. Be forewarned, it is not a 'romantic' composition. I used Finale 2006 with GPO and the Ambience set to a Recital Hall.

That was pretty well done. Very pianistic writing and I like also the well done motivic development.

Interesting piece, William... takes a listen or two.

(If you're worried about your dissonance per your other post in G/D; this is a relatively restful lullaby... lol.)

I like the idea of building a piece around a fundamentally simple foundation -- a given interval; and there's a lot of good compositional technique in this in the use of contrast and pseudo-stretti dialogue. Using the rapidly repeated notes to preserve impetus was a bright stroke, too... works well!

I'd be interested to hear more from this collection, with other intervals, to better understand both your overall style for this series and the underlying ideas used to build a relationship amongst the etudes.

    Best,

Nice little piece of music. I like it. Attractive seventh's.

    Nice job, William...

I look forward to hearing the other intervals

It _is_ fun to see what one can do within limited constraints like this!

Romantic is nice, but this kind of stuff gets me going!

Couldn't get it to work - after all the discussion about dissonance, I wanted to see what the fuss was - I click on the "Play", and nothing happens. Am I missing something? (Hey, no wisecracks!)

I don't know what happened. I think all you have to do is click on the url link and it should start by itself in a few seconds. It does for me anyways.

Just checked this, William -- seems to work fine for me, too. Hit the link, new window opens, player starts...

My compliments once again, while I'm here...
