    GPO JABB combined-Paris d'Imagination

I did not really visit the city of Paris...well, except visiting a couple of musiums using 4 hours of airline transit time.

My (maybe stereo type) image of the city is one of Commissaire Maigret in '60s. I love the series of novels of Georges Simenon. I have tried to picture such image in music.

    (replaced by a revised version)

The major motivation for me to create this piece is the accordion sample of JABB. The sound plays a major role in the tune.

One thing very sure is that the combination of GPO and JABB is very powerful.

GPO: Organ(Prinzipal), Strings, Pizzicato, Harp, Percussion Toys, English Horn, Celesta

JABB: Accordion, 2 Alt sax, 2 Tenor sax, Baritone sax, 4 Trp., 3 Trb., Lite piano, GM Classic Jazz Drums, Upright Bass

    Sincerely,

    Very, very nice!

This is well constructed and has that dreamy, imaginative feel to it. The beginning and ending remind of a Mancini piece and I can't quite pinpoint it. The jazz work through the middle was great...nice chops, man!

Thanks for sharing this. (and as I've seen from your website, you have been creating a lot! )

What unique voicing in the first section of the piece! I'd never have thought to combine this instrumentation in a thousand years -- and it's incredibly effective. The breakout into Jazz runs like clockwork, caught me completely by surprise...

Considering who's writing this comment, of course you'd have to figure I just loved this one.

    Fantastic job on this, Jun!

    All my best,

    David.

    David,

Thank you very much for your comment. I am very glad to hear that the music development is effective. It is very sure that the palet of tones Gary presented us by GPO and JABB has infinite possibilities. Fascinating.

Beautiful!! I love the piece and the arrangement really is inspired. Your realization really has feel as well. The chord change and transition with the strings is great. And then it bebops- outasite I like this piece better than the stuff Yoko Kanno has been writing lately and that's saying something!

Thank you for your comment. I think the first appearance of strings sounds what I expected but the last part of strings arrangement shall need some retouch.

I am flattered as I like the music of Ms. Kanno. I love her "Memories of Time" for "Save my Earth", a beautiful ballad.

    WOW!

this was absolutely terrific! ...every moment!

I agree with David's comment of the sudden switch to jazz, which caught me by surprise as well!
..and loved the change in harmonics at that point
Such an odd combination yet it worked so perfectly...

The melody and feel reminds me a bit of Danny Elfmans' Nightmare before Christmas.

    damn.... this was good!

    a big Bravo!

    Thank you very much, jeff.

I am very happy to hear the "gear change" is effective. I myself like that part of the music.

Amazing piece of work! The transition to the jazzy part totally blew me off ... Indeed GPO + JABB = superb! One thing though, the triangles are a lil too loud, softening them a lil would be good .. Overall, the piece is rather soothing and dreamy, i feel as if i'm loitering in a quiet street at night.
