Talking Fiddling with the Night Sky

On a clear night on the beach where I live, you can actually see the outer bands of our galaxy. It is dizzying to look up at the canopy of stars overhead. If you listen closely, the stars will sing to you. This is what they sang to me... (your nutty ol’ pal Brian)

    Fiddling with the Night Sky

    Used:

    Garritan Stradivari Violin
Scarbee J Slap n Fingered Bass
    Bela D Lyrical Distortion I
    QL 56 Stratocaster
    Artist Drums
    Wusikstation soft synth
Wavestation (from Korg Legacy Collection – Digital Edition)
(Yes, I have previously stated that I would never use a dongle, but hey, it’s only a buck fifty and I have a hardware backup)

Thumbs up Re: Fiddling with the Night Sky

In this strong artists and big producers symposium, it's not so easy avoiding the risk to be criticized if you say something personal, and people don't agree...but I take the risk! I say:

I enjoy your piece Brian. It seems to me a (maybe simple but) nice one!

I love this. Your melody and harmonies are very catchy. The only thing that sticks at me is the mix; a lot of the instruments and frequencies tend to clash and cover each other up. If there was more distinction and spacing created with the mixing this would be a lot stronger. This is just my opinion, others may disagree. I always enjoy your contributions Brian. I still remember your last music piece that you shared with us.

    Cheers,

I like it! Yeah, maybe a simple arrangement but there's nothing wrong with that. It has a nice upbeat feel to it, and a nice full sound. How long did it take you to mix? It's a really nice blend overall. Yeah, there may be a couple spots where there's a few too many things going on in the same freq range, but that's getting really picky in my view, because the thing that stands out to me is the mix. That's usually one of the giveaways, to me, of a self-produced work, is a weak mix and this one, IMO, is not - it's quite good.

    Nice job!

Should I go on to practise bass and guitar playing?? It hurts for some kind of reason.

Very good composition and mixing, I like it!

Sounds nice. Do you sequence or play everything in real-time?
I guess a better question is how do you sequence in the drum parts or use loops. For me the drums are always the thing that holds me back. I have no problem playing keyboards real time or using real guitars.

This is just another RUSH ripoff from a crazy Texan!

Love it B-Man! Your new track has a Counterparts meets Losing It feel going.
