Jupiter Excerpt - Symph. Orch., Mix Test (Sosnowski)

    Jupiter (Excerpt Only)
    Symphony Orchestra
    David J. Sosnowski

    Here: JUPITER

This is a quick excerpt from a larger (in progress) work. (In rough shape in places, so do overlook that for the moment.)

I've been steadily working to improve my "chops" on mixing and sound treatment -- but with my old ears, I can't always trust 'em... plus the usual syndrome of getting deaf to what you're doing from hearing it a thousand times.

Could a few of you be kind enough to check the MIX on this and tell me what you think?

    Beat me up!

I won't learn anything if you all get into fits of niceness... lol.

    Many thanks!

What?? How am I supposed to beat you up for a mix that sounds so good?

No, really, this mix sounds great to me. I've just been listening to some recordings of Beethoven and Tchaikovsky, and the reverb you use is wonderful.

Sorry for being nice, but you have to be worse than this to get beat up, at least by me...

Oh well... I'm no mix master... but to common ears this sounds great.

Thanks for the listen and comment, Sean.

One of my worst fears is that I'm deaf as a post and don't know it.

As is, I do have normal aging hearing loss -- plus a significant additional deficit in the right ear.

That means -- I'm basically "mixing blind" to a great degree... depending more on skill than ears.

And that, my friend, is a hazardous route... lol.

It means I have to calibrate by what others tell me, essentially.

    So...what's NOT to like?

Nice overall sound, Dave. I can't offer any betterment suggestions.

I want you to stay up tonight until you finish the rest of it and post it.

By the way, "RedNaxela" es mi nombre. It's "Alexander" bassackwards.

Thanks for the listen, Larry -- but! Gosh, Larry, I hate to bring it up and all, but at least one of your ears has got to be even older than mine... lol.

The rest of the piece is finished in rough -- along with another four or five of larger scope... but I doubt I'll finish them fully short of a few more months.

I just don't have one of those patented Alexander hyper-space enabled writing pens, by darn.

Alexander backwards? A terrifying thought. Plainly, a case of too many retrograde inversions.

    Thanks for the listen, Dargason.

I promise -- I'll make sure there's ample chance to whack me upside the head at a later date.

    David

This truly brought tears to my eyes !! From the opening chord sequence rich and simply overwhelmingly beautiful harmonies. The dynamics are very effective.

BTW I admit to having the same problem in terms of hearing loss. I've lost a significant percentage of hearing in my right ear already, and I'm afraid it's getting worse ...

Thanks, Louis! Appreciate the comments and the listen.

This matter of not being able to properly hear what you're doing is a nuisance -- sorry to hear it troubles you as well.

What sort of reverb are you using on this David? Is it all more or less the same setting?

    Nice piece/excerpt of writing.
