Question Anyone know where I can get ...

A sample of the Mellotron? A keyboardist needs the exact sound for his reunion show.
    Thanks.

I know I'm gonna regret this, but... what's a melotron? Something out of Nintendo's Metroid?

http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/Aug0...c1649b78e10d07 Interesting. Anyway, talking to the keyboardist, he sent me this link and also found a person to help him. Vintage sounds, sheeshh!

Arguably one of the first samplers ever made. Used tapes of real recorded instruments such as cello, and chorus among others. Very laborious to keep in top working order. The M400 comes to mind as the one my keyboardist in the 70'd owned. Take a look at the link.

The above guy posts on the Discussion forum sometimes, but the first Mellotron sampler I knew of was the g-force M-tron from gmedia below.

This is stand alone or a Plug in VST and I nearly bought one at a music fair a number of years ago (I wish I had!)

This is a review of G-force M-Tron at Sound on Sound:

    This is the company:

Quotes from the company's website: (If it's good enough for Rick Wakeman then it should be good enough for your friend! )

    Audio demo here:

    Selected Quotes
    Robert Bell -(The Blue Nile)
"I thought I'd let you know that the folks down at the blue nile laboratories think that M-TRON is a winner..........a total delight..............."

Paul White - Sound On Sound Magazine
"If you're into retro sounds the M-Tron is a must"

    Mac Format
"Classic Mellotron sounds from the sixties and seventies without the price, bulk or technical problems."

    Rick Wakeman
"Totally authentic. I use it in the studio and live."

    Robin Rimbaud -(Scanner)
"I just wrote a new National Anthem for Europe that was presented in Brussels at the weekend and I used M-Tron to create the voices on the main theme - very regal and worked fantastically. Thanks again to you for giving me this great software."

    Putte
"The fact that I prefer to listen to organic music instead of electronic music brings me close to the M-Tron. I love its sound and wonderful

Maudio sell it (they are the International distributor) but I would have thought that there was a US distributor too.

Yep, found one at Musicians Friend.....a lot cheaper than here (as usual!!) at 'only' $99.9999999 : -

Ilio have a Mellotron disc too.

I bet your friend's doing 'Strawberry Fields' ?.......

PS Just found another gmedia related site of there's here....better European price too:

Thumbs up Re: Anyone know where I can get ...

Wow Frank, you're a veritable gold mine of information on this instrument! I talked to me old keyboardist and he still has his M400 and an MKVI! So, we is taking a ride out to his place on Monday to see if it is possible to sample ourselves. All we need is that vintage sound that must be from the tapes against the tape heads. Go figure!
OK, I'm going to page through your links Frank. This should take the rest of the day and well into next week on dial up!
    Thanks for the help!

Mellotron.com has an Akai sample CD of Mellotron and Chamberlain samples. I've imported this disk into Gigastudio and it works great.
