    Halion String Edition

    Hi everyone,

I have the chance to get the Halion String Edition for pretty cheap
(90 Euro -> about 75 Dollars). The update to Version 2 is about
130 Euros here in Germany - so that would make a total of about
    220 Euros for Version 1 & 2.

Do you guys think that this would be a worthwhile buy?

Up to now I have not been into doing massive orchestral or string
stuff, but there are quite a bit of pop-pieces where piano and
strings form a nice combination and I'd like to work a bit in this
    direction in the future...

Sorry about the slight miscalculation, but obviously the
price for the Version 1 is something like 110 Dollars and
not 75 Dollars (should have multiplied instead of dividing
    the exchange-rate ;-)

Personally i prefer the Peter Siedlazek String Essentials.
Its twice as much material and much sweeter sounding IMHO.

you should be able to get version 1 cheaper, have a look in ebay.

i have version 1 too, but use it very very seldom...to my ears, the sound is too technical. but thats a matter of taste, as usual.

    good luck with your shopping

Halion SE2 has a good sound, but it has the most buggy software player I've ever seen, for PC. A real pity, but I was unable to use it decently.

The sound of Steinberg is not fine.
    There are no new samples!
    Buy Miroslav, etc

What kinds of bugs does this software have? I read the review in
the German "Keyboards" magazine and there were not bugs mentioned...

The review I read mentioned that new articulations had been
added and solo-instruments as well - sounds to me like there
have been additional samples added - since the content is
almost twice as large as that of version 1, I would presume
    so...

Tobias, you will like the sound of HSP I think, especially for pop & rock. It's a well organised library - but so is the new String Essentials from Peter S.

I think the main problem with Steinberg software is that their streaming from Disk is not as good as it should be...but my experience is only on the Mac. I have found Halion and HSP a bit unstable under mac OS 10.3xxx; they now only work under OS 10.4 which I don't use yet.

At that price, I would say, go for it.
