Patricia Jane Awakes and Dances - P Read

    Hi

Needed a break from JABB work so here is a new light chamber orchestra piece scored for flute, oboe, english horn, harp and strings. It is a program piece that describes a young girl who wakes in the early morning, and, inspired by the sounds and atmosphere of a perfect day, dances alone, then slowly tires and goes back to sleep.

(The medication is working perfectly, thank you very much!!)

Here is the link to the music: http://www.paulread.ca/songs/Patricia%20Jane.mp3

And the score as well if you have any interest: http://www.paulread.ca/Score%20Study...cia%20Jane.pdf

    Hope you enjoy it.

    Paul:

Marvelous piece. The harp has an especially nice part in its accompaniment role and the WWs are very well adapted to this charming composition.

Needless to say, you are a GPO artist when it comes to scoring and using GPO instruments.

    Loved this piece.

Thanks so much, Jack. To me it is interesting to hear the differences between Finale HP playback (which this piece is) and the sequencer/input/mix process I am using in my JABB project. I like the control you get in the sequencer over the interpretation, on the other hand, Finale playback automation is a piece of cake by comparison.

Again, my thanks for your kind remarks.

Wow, am I glad I took the time to dig back a few pages, or I would have missed this.

Excellent piece, Paul! I'm genuinely impressed. There's a subtlety and nuance to the writing I definitely haven't heard from you before... beautifully built composition with plenty of quiet surprises, yet dramatically logical and compelling in its course; and the orchestration -- is superbly handled and thought out.

    Enough words from me.

Go write more like this. Please.

    David

    THANK YOU!!!!

I have been working away at other projects and occasionally returned to this one from time to time until it finally found it's end. I am very encouraged by your remarks since this is a little different approach from me as you say, and I was kind of experimenting with a lighter approach in more ways than one. A great antidote to my JABB projects.

Thanks to the positve remarks from you and others, I will be trying my hand at this style of writing again in the very near future.

Thanks again and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
