OT - anyone having trouble with the newest Windows updates?

    Hi Everyone!

I knew that it was too good to last forever...I'm having troubles again with my computer...The newest Windows updates automatically downloaded while I wasn't looking and WHAMO! DAW problems again... It runs for a while and then everything goes black...I've uninstalled as much as I can find and even set everything back to a prior date as far as settings go...any ideas? Thanks for your help.

    Steph

Which updates did you download? Are you speaking of OS updates or the GOS?

What release are you on of XP?

I'm not sure which updates were downloaded...I wasn't looking. I believe that it's the OS. Which release? How do I find that out? Thanks

if you go to control panel\system\general tab, you should see SYSTEM information that gives some information on your environment. Thats a start.

well there is possibly a way to roll back the updates, if that feature was enabled.

ANother thing to do is DISABLE that feature in your control panel/system dialog, so it DONT happen again.

I had this happen when I setup my system to be accessed remotely, and the auto update rebooted my machine and i could not log back in

    Ern,
Everytime an update happens, things get messed up It did it while I wasn't looking (and without my permission as far as I know... ) and then it was too late Stupid bugs!!! Thanks

If you go to Add/remove programs, there should be a check box that allows you to see additional updates. I believe you can safely uninstall any you see that were installed today, but I would ONLY do that if i had system restore enabled. I am sure microsloth thought of this and its ok without system restore, but i would verify.
