Angry "Just Strings" (glitches and all)

    Y'all,

Here is an all-GPO work that I call "Just Strings". Duh. Such originality!

The file contains two or three glitches which were introduced during the mixdown to audio step. Between Sonar and Kontakt2, there are so many damned settings that it boggles the mind. Entering the wrong number for any of these many settings will cause big problems. I tried at least a dozen times to get a good mixdown on this composition and finally gave up in disgust. Either things are getting way too complicated or I am getting too impatient, codger-like and cantankerous in my old age.

It was impossible to get Kontakt 2 to make CC64 (legato) work with GPO samples. Is this a known Bug?

Sorry 'bout the glitches. I shall keep trying to achieve a better mixdown.

    Regards,

    Larry A.

Re the legato problem, are you aware of the need to go into the Kontakt 2 player, and set the sustain pedal to 'sustain plus midi switch' (or something like that)? If you have it sent to normal sostenuto, you will get the piano sustain to work properly, but not GPO legato.

If you are aware of this, and it's set up properly and doesn't work, then I'm clueless.

    Thank you, John 'awksley.

You 'ave nothin' to be envious of, old chap.

How do you contend with all of the settings and numbers crapola? It's driving me up the wall! Just wait until you become a cantankerous olde fahrte sometime in the distant future. You may feel the same way.

    Best to you,

It is set up properly and still doesn't work. It's some kind of buggy disparity between Sonar 3 and Kontakt 2.

Thanks for the suggestion. I appreciate it.

Larry, did you follow the Tom guide on the support and technical section?
Anyway your piece is always compositional very very good.

But, how could you compose so much pieces never boring the listener?
Just let me know the Larry secret!!

    Ciao,
    Roberto

    By the beard etc.etc.

I cope with it by working it all out... ONCE... and saving a template Some days I am in the mood to tinker, but more often I just want to WRITE!

    I'm pretty cantankerous already

My secret is that I eat my spinach. (God, I hate that stuff!)

    Thanks for listening, Rob.

Very nice Larry. Like the bottom end especially. For legato mode make sure you have the sustain pedal set for no sustain.

Spinach your secret? Mind being a popeye superhero?

I knew you had a secret! However, I still refuse to eat spinach, or anything green for that matter, except mint ice-cream.

Great work as usual! Love the counterpoint, and particularly the bass line in this one. Very catchy rhythm. You're the master!
