Announcing GARRITAN PERSONAL ORCHESTRA for SIBELIUS

SIBELIUS ANNOUNCES GARRITAN PERSONAL ORCHESTRA FOR SIBELIUS

Sibelius Software has today announced Garritan Personal Orchestra Sibelius Edition, a version of the acclaimed sample library for use within Sibelius’s Kontakt Player. This integrated set of orchestral sounds will provide composers with a “plug and play” solution for achieving top quality playback from within Sibelius. The Garritan Personal Orchestra is one of the highest quality collections of orchestral libraries ever sampled. It includes all the major instruments of the orchestra - strings, brass, woodwinds, and percussion, and has won more awards than any other orchestral library. The Sibelius Edition of the library will integrate seamlessly with Sibelius’s existing sample player, Kontakt Player Gold, itself developed with leading sample company Native Instruments.

The new release represents a dramatic advance in the potential of the Kontakt Player, adding a huge range of new sounds which can be used alongside those already supplied. Coupled with enhancements in the recently released Sibelius 4 and GPO’s own powerful programming, including the ability to take account of articulation and expression markings during playback, the library will provide unparalleled playback capabilities, all from within Sibelius itself.

GPO Sibelius Edition will form part of the new Sibelius Sounds range of sample libraries, developed in partnership with world-leaders in the field of software sampling. It will provide a variety of award-winning instrumental sounds tailored to the needs of specific groups of composers and musicians.

Jeremy Silver, Sibelius CEO, said: “The Sibelius Sounds range marks a huge step forward for those working with notation who require high-quality, realistic playback. Sibelius and Garritan are already leaders in their fields, and by making it easy to use them together we are extending the possibilities for musicians even further. We plan to extend the Sibelius Sounds range in the future, with additional libraries each designed to suit the needs of a different group of musicians”.

Gary Garritan, President and Founder of Garritan Orchestral Libraries, commented "It is exciting to see Personal Orchestra integrated within Sibelius and take advantage of Sibelius' interface. To work together to help musicians get more from their music technology is exactly what you dream about when you set about developing products such as these. Musicians, students and educators have been demanding this sort of integration of and will certainly benefit from this Sibelius version of Personal Orchestra."

GPO Sibelius Edition will be available from November 2005. For more information, see www.sibelius.com/sounds

My congratulations to you Mr Garritan and Mr Hopkins. Many will bennefit from this. For me as a Sibelius user this is very good news (allthough I use GPO for almost a year now).

BTW The link above should be www.sibelius.com/sounds I guess.

Another feather in Gary’s cap. Come to think of it, I don’t think I can see the cap any more for all the feathers.

    Congratulations Gary.

I'm still not clear on what sort of functionality GPO integrated directly into Sibelius will offer vs. using GPO Studio now. For example, there STILL doesn't seem to be any way to edit volume sweeps recorded in real time into Sibelius, after the fact (something the equivalent of the superimposed-on-the-staff Graphic midi controller Editing window in Overture 4).

Overall, if all the Sibelius-integrated-with-GPO combination does is interpret static dynamic markings and symbols without the possibility of real tweaking of midi controller data, then it seems like the functionality is unfortunately limited at best (compared again to Overture), at least in terms of creating truly subtle score renderings. But correct me if I'm wrong as I'd love to see this sort of functionality in Sibelius! Best -

Well, many Sibelius users have been clamoring for this integration for a long time. Many Sibelius users do not have a nor want a sequencer such as Sonar, etc, and for these people, it is a good deal, I think Not for me, as I will continue to use GPO with Sonar, and probably won't even update my Sibelius to Sib 4, because I will wait and see what the GPO advance has that suits my needs/usage. I think the best outlook is that you must go with what seems to suit your needs. I have not explored the issue in great detail, but I think you will expand the number of instruments you can use, with less cpu stress than with GPO Studio. You can find some information at the Sibelius home page.

What I am still confused about is if Sib 4 will be in some way markedly different from the arrangement many users have now with Sib 3 -- which is to open up the GOP Studio in Sibelius and assign the sounds then play/record them straight out of the program as a .wav.

So I guess the question is, will Sib 4 GPO version offer greater control over the sounds (legato, cres. dim. etc) to reflect the notation markings in the score?

If so I'd be all over this like ugly on an ape

Just read this on the Sibelius web site

"Garritan Personal Orchestra integrates seamlessly with Sibelius 4, and automatically reads and interprets performance indications such as articulation marks, playing techniques, slurs and dynamics (including hairpins on sustained notes) to make full use of GPO's advanced sample programming, providing an exceptionally lifelike performance of your score."

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes -- to me, this is what I have been waiting for. I am slur and legato challenged so this news is great!

Is there any news on pricing and ordering information for people who already own GPO and Sib4?

Re: Announcing GARRITAN PERSONAL ORCHESTRA for SIBELIUS

The website mentions that this is the FULL version of GPO, not a lite edition.

Current GPO owners will only have to install the Sibelius plugin software, we won't have to install another instance of the library, right? I'm conserving my HD space for El Guapo.

    thanks,
    chris.

Thumbs up Re: Announcing GARRITAN PERSONAL ORCHESTRA for SIBELIUS

Hmm, wasn't there something about this in the history books, "Flabious Maximus Sibelius" the great developer?
Congratulations and well done to the GPO team!
