intel chipset 900 series and RME cards

    Hello!

I am wondering if others have that same issue.
I buitls a Giga PC with an Asus P5AD2 Premium motherboard with the Intel 915 chipset. This board accomodate a P4 3.4 GZ processor and have 1 gig of DDR ram . I have 4 SATA drives in RAID 5 configuration.
I'm experiencing droputs/pops in the audio.
I have read on the RME site that there might be issues with their Hammerfall cards and the intel 915 chipset. I use the RME DIGI 9652

    any thoughts ??

    many thanks for your help!

Re: intel chipset 900 series and RME cards

    HI,
how did you acomplish the raid 5 i am asumming a hardware raid card.
raid 0 is recommended not raid 5. a seperate os is recommended not raid 5

what is your video card, anything more than an ATI X300 or Nvidia 6200
    will kill performance.

even if all is right there are still issues with the 915/925 chipsets.
    the 945/955 are fine.

    Scott ,

thanks for your reply.. Regarding the raid 5 configuration , it's all possible with the Asus P5AD2 Premium motherboard.
It's really possible that i've opened a can of worm with this raid thing...I think i'll go back to either no raid or raid 0..but I had a feeling there is issues regarding the 915 chipsets also..thanks for confirming this.
What do you think of going back a generation..like the 875 chipset instead??

    many thanks

Re: intel chipset 900 series and RME cards

    HI,

the 945/955 chipsets are wonderful. seem to have got past whatever design issues were going on with the new PCIE to PCI bridge technology.

raid 0 for your samples drives are great especially for Giga as its disk streaming.

for ram loading samples its not that big of an improvment.

Heard of anyone using a P5LD2 Delux successfully with gs3 yet?

Re: intel chipset 900 series and RME cards

    HI,

i only pay attention to chipsets. if you use the mentioned chipsets on an Asus or Gigabyte mobo you will be fine.

i would recommend a dual core AMD , but you already have a P4

    good luck

    Scott,
Could you please explain why you would go with the dual core AMD setup as opposed to the P4 setup ? ...I'm ready for a 2nd PC ..Thanks, Jim

Re: intel chipset 900 series and RME cards

    HI,

for softsynth/VSTi/Giga the Dual Core AMD's can do more at lower latency than Intel. plus you can redline an AMD farther that INtel.

mind you both DUal Core systems are very nice.
and at this point a single CPU is a waste of money

Re: intel chipset 900 series and RME cards

    Hey Scott:

I was wondering if you have a system running a dual core Athlon 64? I thought the motherboards that support those are only nforce4 chipsets which require pci-x for video and it's my understanding that pci-x + athlon 64 does not work well for audio?
