    Giga machine: comments please!

Here is the giga machine I plan to get. I'm assembling from seperate parts. Please tell me if I shouldn't get this, or this you don't really need or this doesn't work with this or whatever. (I'm still debating weather or not to ditch the floppy drive)
The links will take you to a page off full specs.

    Thanks!
    -Chris

    Dear Cptexas,

As you noticed this forum is a little snobby unless you have a built already machine. I have read that the sound card has buggy drivers concrening sp/dif I/Os. RME has great stuff though like the Hammerfall 9632. They seem to build high quality stuff consistently. Since Ovid has purchased MAudio they have diversified and would rather ship out buggy products just to get them to market. Do a search in this forum on that particular model. I'm betting that you'll read negative stuff about it. RMEs GSIF II drivers work without incident. I wish that Creamware would go with GSIF II, but I'm happily stable with GS3 on GSIF I for now. Remeber, since this is an Audio only box, do you think it wise to spend more for quality, or first to market sub 175 USD?

Well, I won't be doing much recording. Most recordings I make I just use my grandpa's studio which is more digital audio editing oritented. Then I just burn a cd and move it to my computer where I do whatever with it. I will use this machine for sampling and playing samples both through Gigastudio and GPO/GPOA.

    Chris,
I notice you're goin' with the 64 processpr....is all that gear 64 bit compatible, ie, will the machine, when assembled, be win64 ready?

If so, I envy you. I do anyway, but will more so.

    Just Curious,

I didn't know all the other stuff had to be 64 bit compatible. I thought it was just the motherboard/processor? I'll look into it. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

    Anything else?
I really want to order soon.

    Chris,

You don't need everything to be 64-bit compatible.

If you build a full 64-bit solution (HW, SW & OS), you will be able to run more RAM. If any link in the chain is broken, you'll be running a 32-bit system.

Giga is 32-bits only. Chain broken.

THe AMD solution is still good though. You will be ready for 64-bits in the future. And it has a nice value today for 32-bit systems.

    Oh DANGIT!!!!

Don't you hate it when that happens?

Well, the motherboard only handles 3 gigs of RAM, so that won't be good, chain broken again. Well, I've only heard good things about AMD64's so I picked one out.

What do y'all think about the AMD64's versus other AMD chips and intel chips?

If you go with AMD chips, 64-bits is the only way to go. Their 32-bit chips are slow these days, and the 64-bit prices are attractive.

AMD vs. Intel? That discussion can get... controversial. However, I bought AMD, as I find that they offer good value. The bottom line: my Athlon64 3000+ does up to 5 instances of GigaPulse without overclocking.
