    Orchestration Challenge 4

    Hi Everyone,

The Orchestration Challenge 4 Melody and Midi file are posted at the links below.

The melody is very simple and predictable harmonically, but I think it should have many reharmonization possibilities, and plenty of room for thematic development.

The 'B's in measure 4 and 5 are natural. All other 'B's are flat, including all 'B's in measure 6. You will hear it in the midi file anyway.

Have fun and let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks a lot, Linda

    Hi Falcon1,

The last challenge went for 4 weeks I believe.

I don't know what the deadline for this one is, but I am sure Sean, Richard N. or SouthportJim will be online soon to answer the question.

    Regards, Linda

Thanks for the melody, I can't wait to get started!

4 weeks from now would be Oct. 7th . . . how does that sound?

    Linda,
You're right, we've usually tried to stay with 4 weeks, although you, as moderator, can extend that deadline if you desire (or enough people request it). The general feeling is that four weeks is sufficient...that is until the actual deadline approaches, at which point "slackers" like me start wishing for extra time!!! ;-)

We also try to include a full weekend at the end so folks have some free time to complete their entries...I would suggest setting October 9th as the deadline, but you can adjust this based on your own schedule or the wishes of the entrants.

Also, in previous rounds, entrants have emailed their submissions to the moderator, who then posted them on their own web space. If you don't have web space available or an email address you want to use for this, please let me and Sean know...we have space where the submissions can be posted and can receive them as well.

Nice theme, by the way...this should be fun!
    ;-)

Edit: Sean - I extended to Oct 9th to include a weekend at the end.

Edit 2 - By the way, if you haven't seen the good work that Sean has done on the "archive" of past challenges, take a trip over to his personal site to take a look=>

    Sean and Southport,

I do not have my own webspace.

Thank you for your suggestion about posting the submissions.

I believe I will need your assistance for that. If there is anything I can do so that you guys aren't putting in all the effort, please let me know.

    Thanks a lot again!!

Oct. 9th sounds great! I'll update the archive tonight, and of course I certainly don't mind helping collect entries or anything. I still have plenty of web space available.

Yes and well done Sean and Jim for organising, hosting, and managing submissions so professionally on the last one.
