    Question ReWire?

I've been meaning to ask this question for some time now however, never getting around to it till now.
How does "ReWire" work and what purpose does it serve?

    Re: ReWire?

My limited understanding based on the fact that I've not used it is this:

Its a way to 'virtually' connect 2 or more audio applications so that they share midi and/or audio data streams.

It also allows Gigastudio owners to use the program without GSIF drivers.

Isn't it a way to make a seperate application look like a plugin or something? Like gigastudio. You open Sonar, then within Sonar you make Giga a rewire device and giga opens up under Sonar's control.

Am I on the right track?

    Yes.

ReWired apps will show as plugins in the 'host' program.

Hm, Acid 5.0 has rewire and so does Samplitude 8. Now, all I have to do is figure out how it all works together.
    Thanks for the info.

I didn't realize that ReWire came with several products, including Sonar (I always thought it was a standalone product just for use with Reason, which I don't have).

I found a FAQ over here that may help=> http://www.propellerheads.se/index.cfm

Look under "Technologies" at the left and click on Rewire.
