Miracle of Life - by Angus

Angus has sent in a wonderful composition entitled "Miracle of Life".

    Here is the link:

This work was inspired by a poem of the same name by Christie Grahame:

    The Miracle of Life

    The Miracle of Life begins
    As Autumn over Summer wins,
And eve'ning breeze its warning spills
The near advent of Winter chills.
    Then Garden Beauties fragrant dance
As bait to Busy Bees entrance,
That they in frenzied honeyed lust
Spread wide the fertile Pollen Dust.

    Descending Dust seductive show'rs
    On Stamens of impassioned flow'rs
Till brilliant Petals fold and hide
    The Miracles conceived inside.
    Their Beauty now beyond recall,
The withered Petals fade and fall
Revealing as they drift to Earth
The Seed their Beauty brought to birth..

But Seeds of dormant Beauties wake
And with their probing Fingers break
    The earthy Crust that Winter's Frost;
    Cemented firm and Rime embossed;
Had in its frozen shield encased
    The seedling Beauties new upraised.
    Thus Miracle of Life's re-told
When probing Shoots as Leaves unfold.

Thanks Angus for sharing this beautiful composition. The sonority and musical textures you've created are superb. I enjoyed visiting your website

    Wow!!

    This is wonderful!

The Asian influence evokes a relaxing mood of calmness and serenity… (..just what I needed today)

Reminds me of "The Secret Garden" sound track,

    Hi there,

Thanks. But it's not an asian influence you're hearing - it's Scottish. Almost the same scale though! (Yet, I have to confess, I borrowed a few ideas from Grieg..)

I retouched the ending to give it a bit more movement from 5:15 onwards - pizzicato contrabass and harp.

Unfortunately I can't seem to post links, so hopefully Gary will be able to update the MP3 for me.

    Cheers

Thanks Gary. Subtle, I thought - but just enough to complete the piece.

I really enjoyed listening to this. I think you captured the underlying mood of the poem quite well. I wonder what it would sound like if you mixed it together with somebody reading the poem - kind of like what Copland did with "Lincoln Portrait." Not that you have to, mind you - it sounds just fine on it's own.

I also enjoyed the nice touch of irony in the title when it gets played in Windows Media Player. "Clubbed To Death" right over the title "Miracle Of Life." Priceless...

Thanks, Rhino! Actually, Clubbed To Death's the name I go by for the electronic music I do; I didn't realise I'd put it in for this MP3 too..

This is just beautiful! It's very relaxing, and it's great to just sit back and let my worries vanish for a moment while listening to it. This will definitely be going in my "favorites" folder It never gets boring. I look forward to more of your work.
