OT: how many people here have phds, DMA or equiv degrees?

    Question:

    Long shot...but interesting...

How many threaders have highest level of university degrees, regardless of subject specialty (e.g. music, chemistry, MD, art, etc)?

Masters in Music performance - when I got it, a DMA in classical guitar was just getting off the ground, so for a long time, a Masters was considerred a "terminal degree". The DMAs and PHDs can tell you why its called a terminal degree... I leave the punchline to my more educated colleauges!

Just finished up my Master's in composition a year ago. I'm planning to go back for my DMA (or PhD) within the next few years, but I'm enjoying some of the perks of the real world for the time being...

    For what its worth...

Never got a PhD but I spent 20 plus years studying research heuristics from the perspective of Knowledge-based Artificial Intelligence and applying them to various subjects. Business/organizational strategy, and investment decision-making, the growth of knowledge, the validity and reliability of knowledge, the evolution of belief systems, and the effect of diet and environment on health. The question that fascinated me was: what does it mean for knowledge to grow?

Ph.D. from University of Chicago in religious philosophy (I know, I know, another money maker, that and being a musician...).

My areas were Nietzsche and Buddhist thought.

And now I'm composing! Go figure...
