    Brighter Winds

Is there a way to make woodwinds sound brighter?

If you're working in a sequencer or loading the samples directly into full Kontakt you can EQ the mid to high end to brighten things up a bit. Many people do this to some degree or other in order to get more "presence" in a particular instrument. Not sure if there's anything you can do the GPO player itself though.

I'm using Ambience on the Kontakt player and I think adjusting EQ there would affect all instruments.

That's what I mean, you can load the samples into full Kontakt (not the player that comes with GPO) where you can EQ each instrument individually, or in a sequencer you can isolate the instrument sound to its own audio channel and EQ that. Apart from that I can't think of anything else.

Thanks, but I don't have the full player. I look into getting one.

You don't have to buy Kontakt to EQ instruments. You can route the audio-outs to different channels.

    Here's one way...

    In GPO Kontakt player
The default audio output channels are displayed as 1+2

You can re-route the woodwinds that you want to EQ
to outputs 3+4 (select from drop-down menu, by clicking on "1+2")

    Then, in your sequencer,

    for the GPO audio input
You will find this as an Audio Track in Sonar, usually named Garritan Personal Orchestra... The default audio INPUT for GPO, would be GPO main (all channels)

change that to GPO 1+2 for input

    Then, create another audio track
and assign the input to GPO 3+4

So now, you'll have 2 audio tracks for GPO in you sequencer - for outputs 1+2 and 3+4..

The woodwinds should play now though channels 3+4 only
Set the EQ in the new track, or insert any audio plugins here, and they'll only affect the instruments routed to 3+4.

    Hope that works for you.

If you're using the X-Custom versions of the instruments, you can use MIDI CC24 to control the brightness.
